Identity & Self
Working out who you are is hard enough without the world having loud opinions about who you should be. Sessions give you room to explore without judgement.
Figuring out who you are, without judgement.
Identity questions are some of the biggest young people face. Who am I? What do I believe? Where do I fit? What do I want, separate from what everyone else wants for me?
For many young people we work with, identity questions intersect with neurodivergence (understanding yourself after a late autism or ADHD diagnosis), gender and sexuality (figuring out who you are in a world that sometimes doesn't make room for you), and cultural identity (juggling different expectations from different parts of your life).
Our counselling is affirming and non-judgmental. Whoever you're working out you are, that's valid.

What we work on in identity and self
Neurodivergent identity
Late ADHD or autism diagnoses change how you understand your whole story. We work through that reframing, from grieving the past to seeing yourself more clearly.
In practice: Separating the messages you've received about your neurotype from your own experience of it, and building a self-description that feels accurate.
Gender & sexual identity
Affirming counselling to explore gender identity, sexuality, and what that means for your relationships and how you move through the world.
In practice: Exploring identity questions in a space with no pressure to label or decide, just room to talk through what feels right.
Values & beliefs
Working out what you believe, separate from family, religion, or culture, is hard and important. We help you think it through.
In practice: Using a values exercise designed for young people to identify what matters most, then looking at where life aligns with those values and where it doesn't.
Cultural identity
Navigating multiple cultural identities, the one at home, the one at school, the one you're building for yourself, is its own kind of stress.
In practice: Using creative exercises like collage or playlist-building to express identity in a way that doesn't require putting it into words straight away.
Belonging & fitting in
Feeling like you don't belong anywhere, or only belong by hiding who you are, is painful. We work on building belonging.
In practice: Identifying which social environments feel authentic and which require performance, then problem-solving how to spend more time in the first group.
Identity after trauma
Difficult experiences can fragment how you see yourself. We work on rebuilding a stable picture of who you are after hard things have happened.
In practice: Building a timeline of the strengths, interests and moments that still feel like you from before and after hard experiences, then writing a short description of who you are now.

What it costs
Pricing for identity-focused counselling follows the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. What you pay depends on the session type and whether it falls on a weekday, evening, or weekend. Sessions are also available privately (self-funded) or through other schemes if NDIS doesn't apply to you. Cost is always confirmed in writing before anything starts.
Am I eligible?
Identity-focused support like this usually sits under NDIS Capacity Building, most often Improved Daily Living, with Improved Relationships also relevant where family or social work is involved. If a young person's plan includes that funding, it can usually be used here. A support coordinator or plan manager can help check. Private, self-funded access is also available without any NDIS involvement.
Where we work
We're based in Thomastown and work across Greater Melbourne, including the northern, western, and eastern suburbs. Sessions are also available online for young people who'd rather talk things through from somewhere familiar. Some support extends into regional Victoria too.
How to start
Reach out by phone, our contact form, or email. The first conversation is about what you're looking for, and you share as much as you want to. From there we match you with a practitioner who suits you, and a first session is usually booked within a few business days.
You don't have to have it figured out to get started.
