Trauma Counselling

Trauma changes how you feel safe, how you relate to people and how you move through the world. Evidence-based trauma support that moves at a speed you can manage.

What is trauma counselling?

Trauma is a nervous system response

Trauma is what happens in your nervous system when something was too much, too fast, or too soon, and there wasn't enough support around it. Trauma is about what your body and brain learned to do to survive, regardless of how severe the event was.

Brains change, and the patterns trauma creates can shift.

Our trauma counselling is paced. We don't ask you to relive things before you're ready. We build the foundation first (stability, skills and safety) and move on from there.

Who we work with

  • People with PTSD diagnosis or symptoms
  • Complex trauma / C-PTSD
  • Childhood trauma survivors
  • Neurodivergent people with trauma histories
  • People whose trauma history is affecting daily life
How it works

How trauma work happens

Safety and stability first

Before processing anything, we build the foundation, grounding skills, nervous system awareness, and enough felt safety to do the work.

Understanding what's happening

We help you understand your trauma responses, why your brain and body do what they do, which takes the fear out of the symptoms.

Trauma processing (at your pace)

Using evidence-based approaches including ACT, Psychodynamic, and parts work, we process what's stored at a pace that works for you.

Integration and moving forward

Helping what you've processed settle, and planning what daily life looks like from here.

Good to know before you start

Approach, funding and pace.

Evidence-based

We use ACT, Psychodynamic work, somatic awareness and parts work.

NDIS funded

Trauma counselling can be funded under Improved Daily Living. We'll help you understand your options.

Neuro-affirming

Many people with trauma histories are also neurodivergent. We understand how these intersect.

Your pace

Trauma work done at the wrong pace can make things worse, so you set the speed.

Cost, eligibility & getting started

The questions people ask before their first session.

What it costs

Trauma counselling follows the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. The amount depends on the type of session and whether it falls on a weekday, evening, or weekend.

You can also access support privately, or through other schemes, if NDIS funding doesn't apply to you. Whatever the funding source, cost is always confirmed in writing before anything starts.

Am I eligible?

Trauma-informed counselling usually sits under NDIS Capacity Building, most often Improved Daily Living, and Improved Relationships where that fits your goals.

You don't need a formal diagnosis to reach out. A support coordinator or plan manager can help you check your plan, and private or self-funded sessions are available too.

Where we work

We're based in Thomastown and work across Greater Melbourne's northern, western, and eastern suburbs. Sessions are also available online, and some supports extend into regional Victoria.

How to start

Reach out by phone, our contact form, or email. The first conversation is about what you're looking for, and you share as much as you want to.

From there, we match you with a practitioner who suits you, and a first session is usually booked within a few business days.

Your nervous system learned these responses and can learn new ones.
