Grief & Loss

Grief doesn't follow rules or timelines, and it covers any loss that matters. We give you space to carry it.

What's happening

Grief is complicated

Grief is the price of love and connection. And it's one of the most misunderstood human experiences, because people don't know what to do with someone who's grieving. They either say the wrong thing, rush to fix it, or disappear.

Grief can follow a death. It can also be the loss of a relationship, a role, a diagnosis that changes who you thought you'd be, the loss of a future you'd planned for, or the grief of things you never had to begin with. All of it counts.

We sit with you in it, help you understand it, and work on ways to carry it that don't take you out at the knees.

What we work on together

What grief work covers

Sessions often cover these areas.

Making sense of the grief

We help you understand what you're experiencing, why it comes in waves, why certain things trigger it, why it doesn't look the way you expected.

In practice: Using a timeline to map the loss and its ripple effects, naming what each wave of grief is connected to, so it feels less overwhelming.

Holding the loss without being consumed

The goal is to integrate the grief into your life and keep living alongside it.

In practice: Practising moving between time set aside for grieving and time for ordinary life, noticing what helps in each, so grief and daily living can sit side by side.

Complicated grief

When grief is tangled with relief, guilt, anger, or an ambivalent relationship, we work through the complexity without judgment.

In practice: Writing an unsent letter to the person or thing you lost, including the conflicted feelings, then reading it aloud in session.

Grief after diagnosis

A diagnosis, for yourself or a loved one, can bring grief of its own. We give it the time it needs.

In practice: Naming the specific losses that came with the diagnosis, the future you imagined, the identity you held, and giving each one space.

Rebuilding after loss

When you're ready, and not before, we work on who you are now and what a life forward can look like.

In practice: Identifying one area of life that feels ready for small forward movement, and planning a concrete first step together.

Supporting the People Around You

Grief changes relationships. We help you work out how to say what you need and how to hold space for others grieving differently.

In practice: Rehearsing specific phrases for telling people what you need, like "I need you to just listen right now" versus "I need practical help with X."

Cost, eligibility & getting started

Cost, eligibility & getting started

What it costs

Sessions for grief and loss follow the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, with the cost depending on the type of session and whether it's a weekday, evening, or weekend appointment. You can also access this support privately, without NDIS funding, or through other schemes. Whatever the funding path, cost is always confirmed in writing before anything starts.

Am I eligible?

Support for grief usually sits under Capacity Building, Improved Daily Living (or Improved Relationships if the loss involves family dynamics). If your plan includes that funding, you can use it here. A support coordinator or plan manager can help confirm what's in your plan. No relevant NDIS funding? Private, self-funded sessions are available too, and you don't need a diagnosis to reach out.

Where we work

We're based in Thomastown and work across Greater Melbourne, including the northern, western, and eastern suburbs. Online telehealth sessions are available too, and some of our support extends into regional Victoria. We'll figure out what's practical for you.

How to start

Get in touch by phone, our contact form, or email. The first conversation is about what you're carrying, and you share as much as you want to. From there, we match you with a counsellor who suits you and aim to have a first session booked within a few business days.
