Separation & Divorce
Separation is one of the most difficult things a family goes through, and it restructures how the whole family works. We help you through it in a way that protects everyone, especially the kids.
Support for separating families.
Separation brings grief, anger, confusion, and enormous practical load, all at once. And if there are children involved, the stakes are higher. How parents handle separation has a lasting impact on kids' wellbeing.
We work with separating families to help them establish a workable co-parenting arrangement, communicate with a former partner, support children through the transition, and manage their own emotional experience without it spilling onto the kids.
We help you separate in a way that keeps everyone as intact as possible. This is separation support, and isn't couples counselling aimed at getting back together.

Separation looks different for every family.
Sessions often cover these areas.
Co-parenting communication
How do you communicate effectively with someone you're no longer with, especially when things are painful? We build a working framework for child-focused communication.
In practice: Setting up a structured co-parenting communication plan, including what gets discussed, when, and how, to reduce conflict around logistics.
Impact on children
How to talk to your kids about separation, read the signs they're struggling, and be there for them without pulling them into the adult issues.
In practice: Practising age-appropriate language for talking to your children about the separation, and planning how to check in with them regularly.
Managing your own grief
Separation involves real loss, even if the relationship was bad. We give you space to process that, separate from the practical logistics.
In practice: Creating space to process the grief, anger, and relief that come with separation, without those feelings spilling into co-parenting decisions.
Blended family dynamics
New relationships, step-parents, half-siblings, competing schedules, blended families are their own complex system, and we work through it with you.
In practice: Drawing a map of who lives in each household and how the schedules fit together, then listing where step-parent and sibling roles need talking through.
Separation with NDIS/disability
When disability supports or an NDIS plan are involved, separation gets more complicated. We work with the whole picture.
In practice: Listing the supports and NDIS plan arrangements your child has in each household, then agreeing who handles appointments, paperwork and plan reviews.
Moving forward
Building a new life after separation, individually and as a restructured family, takes time and support. We stay with you through that process.
In practice: Mapping out what your week looks like now and identifying where new routines, support, and connection need to be built.

The practical side.
What it costs
Separation and co-parenting support follows the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, with the amount depending on session type and whether it's a weekday, evening, or weekend. You can also access this privately, or through other schemes, if NDIS funding doesn't apply. Cost is always confirmed in writing before anything starts.
Am I eligible?
Support through separation usually sits under NDIS Capacity Building, Improved Relationships, if a participant's plan includes that funding. A support coordinator or plan manager can help you check what applies. Families can also see us privately, without any NDIS funding.
Where we work
We're based in Thomastown and support separating and co-parenting families across Greater Melbourne, the northern, western, and eastern suburbs. Sessions are also available online via telehealth, useful when parents are now living in different areas, with some support extending into regional Victoria.
How to start
Reach out by phone, our contact form, or email. The first conversation is about where things are at for your family, and you share as much as you want to. We'll match you with a practitioner who suits you, and your first session is usually booked within a few business days.
You can still be a family after separation.
Give us a call and we'll plan the first conversation together.
